Philip A Lander, President/CEO, Atlantic Defense Company, LLC
"When I first started my business in 2005, I worked with the Maine PTAC office to help me get positioned as a government contractor. I worked at it and did all of my registrations and attended training sessions. I attended my first DOD Northeast Regional Council Small Business Matchmaker in October of 2006 in Maine. At the conference, I met with the Small Business Officer of the Army Corps of Engineers. I talked about my capabilities and my experience in the construction business and my status as a Service Disabled Veteran Business. That first Matchmaker meeting led to further meetings and discussions and then finally a contract."
"I credit much of my early success to working with the Maine PTAC and the contacts that I made at the DOD Regional Council Matchmaker. Attending Matchmakers led to teaming and subcontracting with some large primes such as Cianbro Corporation and Lane Construction and help me strengthen relationships with other prime contractors such as CCB Inc., Melton Defense and Sargent Corporation. I gained valuable experience working with large businesses before I received my first prime government contract. I recommend attending a Matchmaker to any small business but especially to Veteran Owned businesses so that they can build the relationships that they need to succeed."
